Brenda "Gail" Ray - Class Of 1967

Brenda Gail Ray

An Olney woman died Tuesday, August 9, 1983 as the result of an apparent accidental drowning in her home.

Richland County Coroner, Susan Bromm said the body of Brenda Gail Ray, 34 of 309 W. South, was found by a neighbor.

Bromm said Ray apparently had a seizure and fell into the tub full of water. Her body was found partially submerged. She was taken to Richland Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. Repeated attempts to revive her failed. Bromm said Ray had a history of epilepsy since childhood.

Ray was expected at a friend's house, Bromm said, when she didn't arrive, the friend notified a neighbor who discovered the body. Bromm said Ray lived alone. There are no indications of foul play but the incident is being investigated by the Olney Police Department. An inquest will be held.

She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
