William Anthony Tony Doherty

William A. "Tony" Doherty, 59, of Vincennes, passed away Oct. 14, 2008 at Eastgate Manor Nursing Home in Washington, Ind.

He was born in Olney, Ill. the son of William E. and Betty R. Kutch Doherty. He was a 1967 graduate of East Richland High School having established records in football and track. He was awarded a football scholarship to University of Illinois. He worked in the oil fields and worked at the Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the Marine Corps. He received two Purple Heart awards for his service. He was a member of the Christian faith and enjoyed reading and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Patricia Hamilton and Mary Roberts.

He is survived by his brother, Jeff Doherty and his wife, Barbara of Carbondale, Ill.; his nieces and nephews, Jackie Durall of Vincennes, Clint Duurall and his wife, Beth of Carlisle, Ind.; Jeffery Doherty and Sarah Doherty of Carbondale, Jamie Shidler and her husband, Bob, of Bellevue, Neb.; and Scott Roberts of Elizabethtown, Ky.; and two brothers-in-law, Jack Hamilton of Bruceville, Ind. and Richard Roberts of Lawrenceville, Ill.

Graveside services at the Crest Haven Cemetery Chapel in Claremont, Ill. Pastor Glenn Turner will officiate. He will be laid to rest next to his parents in Crest Haven Cemetery.
