JC Kowa, 65, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at his residence. John Carl “JC” Kowa was born on January 13, 1958 in Olney, the son of Carl and Betty (Worrell) Kowa. He married Carmen Cato on October 18, 1986 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Olney, and she survives.

JC was a leader and mentor to many in Richland County. He was the Richland County Republican Chairman for many years as well as serving as Olney Township Trustee and Southern Vice President of the Illinois County Chairman Association. JC had a passion for politics because he cared for his community and it was a way for him to see positive change.

JC loved spending time at the family farm where he took pleasure in mowing, gardening and fishing. He also enjoyed playing golf with friends and family. JC enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was very consistent with keeping contact with family members. His commitment to his family and community will be truly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Betty Kowa.

JC is survived by his wife, Carmen Kowa; sons, Will (Savannah) Kowa of Girard, IL, and Jake (Allison) Kowa of Smithton, IL; grandchildren, Mykaela, Emmersyn, Everytt, Wylla, Ivy, and Edyth Kowa; sister, Nancy (Sal) Boccuzzi; aunt, Bonnie (Richard) Schnell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A visitation for JC will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.

A funeral service for JC will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. Burial will follow the service at Green Hill Cemetery in Noble, Illinois.
