Crash Kills Olney Man

An Olney man was killed Wednesday, March 4, 1987 when the car he was driving collided with another about three miles north of Yale in Jasper County.

According to Illinois state police reports, Douglas K. Murray, 29, was pronounced dead on arrival at Crawford Memorial Hospital. The driver of the other car, Peggy E. McGinness, 21, of Charleston was in critical condition Wednesday night in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County.

Early police reports indicate that the car driven by McGinness crossed the center line on Illinois 49 before striking the car driven by Murray. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

No tickets have been issued, and the investigation is continuing.

Douglas Kent Murray, 29, 608 E. Monroe, Olney died March 4, 1987 in Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, as the result of injuries sustained in a two-car accident near Yale.

Burial in Crest Haven Cemetery.

Mr. Murray was born May 3, 1957 in Olney, the son of Don and Doris (Largent) Murray. He married Pam Piper April 19, 1980.

He was a pipefitter/welder with Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157. He was also a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Pam; a daughter, Candice Nicole Murray at home; a brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Susie Piper, Champaign; a sister, Debbie Phillips, Olney; his parents, Don and Doris Murray of Olney; a niece and nephew.
