Benny Blackford

Benny T. Blackford, age 68, of Newburgh, IN, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at home surrounded by his wife, daughters and beloved pets.

Benny was born January 19, 1954, in Vincennes, IN to Roy Allen Blackford and Vivian “Raedell” (Thomas) Schwarzlose. He graduated from East Richland High School as Valedictorian in 1972, and went on to earn a degree in Respiratory Therapy from the University of Southern Indiana. Benny retired from Select Specialty Hospital in 2012. He was a strong patient advocate and the best Respiratory Therapist, EVER. After retirement, he continued to work at Ed Coburn’s farm in Warrick, Co.

Benny was stubborn yet the most kind hearted, fun-loving, beautiful person. He truly loved helping people. Benny loved his family & friends. He enjoyed fishing (as long as he caught the bigger fish), Arizona and St. Louis Cardinals, reading, Rock N Roll (especially AC/DC), all animals and nature.

Benny battled stage 4, ALK Positive lung cancer for nearly two years. His fight was mighty to give his family more time to cherish him. Benny will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Benny is survived by his loving wife, Terrie Anne (Ginder) Blackford; daughter; Natalie Hix (Mick) of Chantilly, VA, Elizabeth Blackford of Newburgh, IN, Tara Cissell (Richard) of Atlanta, GA, Shana Williams of Florida; grandchildren, Ava Martin, Kelsi Clements, Kaleb Harmon, Kameron Williams; special and beloved grand-dog, Memphis; siblings, Sherry Snyder of Calhoun, IL, Terry Blackford (Linda) of Sapulpa, OK, Randy Blackford (Ann) of Olney, IL, Dave Blackford (Darla) of Greenville, IL, Scott Blackford (Sue) of Monroe, LA; step-mother, Glenora Blackford of Olney, IL; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Benny is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Raedell; step-father, Ron Schwarzlose; son, Billy Harmon who passed in 2021; and brother in-law Richard Snyder.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
