William Richard Stroud

William Richard Stroud (Bill), 86 died November 13, 2011. He was born June 22, 1925, in Kewanee, IL the son of Walter B. Stroud and Estella L. Richardson. He was always the youngest and the brightest.

He attended West Point and began his military career in 1946. He had tours in Korea, Russia and Vietnam. After 20 years of military service he retired as a Lt. Colonel. He earned his Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of WI. He then taught for 18 years at the UW-Milwaukee. He had his own TV show, Watch Dog Watch.

He married Marcella Knauer on December 30, 1952. She was the sister of his West Point classmate, Glenn Knauer. She preceded him in death in 1996 after 44 years of loving marriage. He is also preceded in death by his daughter Susan Kay. Bill's sister Ruth, married Richard Wildrick, West Point class of 1946.

Bill is survived by his children Tim (Keeley), Phillip (Mary Ann), Karen Stroud and Jo Anne (Tim) Taylor. Four grandchildren, Katie (Matt) Majarian, Sophia, Gina and David Stroud and step grandson, Blaise and step great-grandson, Tosh.

Some of the wisdom of Bill's life included: Always quit a job when you've learned it. The great satisfaction in life is not the achievement of the goal but the struggle on the way. Do not struggle to satisfy others, satisfy yourself. Be brutally honest. Cherish your friends and family.
