Bernice Scherer Post Graduate (Crum)

Bernice E. (Scherer) "Bernie" Crum, 82, of Olney, was called to her eternal home on Sunday, July 28, 2007, from Flora Care Center in Flora. She had recently been a resident of Brookstone Estates in Olney.

Memorial service held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Olney. Interment at Crest Haven Memorial Park in rural Claremont. Full military rites conducted by Olney veterans organizations.

Bernie was born March 14, 1925, in Olney, the daughter of Arthur L. and Etta E. (Burgener) Scherer.

She grew up on a farm near Olney and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1944 from Deaconess in Evansville, Ind. She served as a nurse in the Army Corps during World War II. She married Eugene Crum on November 28, 1946. They began buying farm ground, and their lives soon became centered around their farm.

Mrs. Crum is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sue Crum, of Olney; and her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Patrick Fessel, of Little Rock, Ark. She also leaves four grandchildren, Crystal (Crum) Trout and her husband, Michael; Dr. Joshua Fessel and his friend, Shana Kohnstamm; Lisa (Crum) Holdren and her husband, Drew; and Jessica (Fessel) Catt and her husband, Brian. She leaves three great-grandchildren, Samantha Trout, Covington Trout and Taylor Catt, and one foster great-granddaughter, Destanie. Also surviving are two siblings, Ray Scherer, of Holland, Penn., and Chris Scherer and his wife, Jane, of Urbana.

Bernie was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; parents, Arthur and Etta; stepmother, Edna; sister, Margaret; brothers, Gene and Paul; and sisters-in-law, Dottie and Susie Scherer.

Bernie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Richland County HEA and Harriett's Quilters. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the Olney area for many years.
