Robert "Bob" Gertsch, 68, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.  Bob was born April 17, 1955 in Olney, the son of Christian Albert and Elsie May (Brotherton) Gertsch. He married Carla Jo Duncan on July 10, 1981 in Olney, and she preceded him in death on January 7, 2019.

Bob was recently retired from the Lawrenceville Correctional Facility after 20 years of service. Prior to LCF he worked at Union Frondenberg. Bob enjoyed fishing, bowling, and hunting. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed attending all of his grandkids sporting functions, school events, and anything the kids were involved with. Bob was a simple man, he spoke very few words, but they were full of wisdom. He will be missed by all those that knew him.

Bob is survived by his son, Brandon Duncan and wife Cindy of Parkersburg; daughter, Vanessa McCormick and husband Kevin of Noble; son, Aaron Gertsch and significant other, Elizabeth Goldman, of Noble; grandchildren, Amy (Josh) Strong, Andy Brock, Holly Duncan, Jeremiah Duncan, Ashtin McCormick, Zoie McCormick, Kaden Gertsch, Landen Gertsch, and Kaylee Goldman; 6 great grandchildren; brothers, Gene, Phillip, Mike, Jim, John, and Steve Gertsch; sisters, Barbara Stafford and Brenda Shields; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Chris Gertsch.

A funeral service for Bob will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a visitation starting two hours prior to service time at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Crest Haven Memorial Park in Claremont, Illinois.
