John Fawkes

John "Foxy" Fawkes, 61, of Calhoun, died Saturday, May 31, 2008 , at his residence.  Burial in Bone Gap Cemetery in Bone Gap. Full military rites will be performed by Olney veterans organizations.

Mr. Fawkes was born October 20, 1946 in Edwards County, the son of Lester D. and Claranell (Morlan) Fawkes. He was born at the family home near Bone Gap. The family moved to a farm south of Claremont in 1950. He attended schools in Claremont and Olney before joining the Army in 1966. He married Dorothy Jean "Dottie" Clark on September 21, 1968, in Calhoun.

He was a bar manager for local clubs and worked for DresserAtlas, B&O Railroad and most recently for Illini Wireworks. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the American Legion and Petroleum Club. He was a gunsmith and spent many hours on the target range and riding his motorcycle.

Mr. Fawkes is survived by his wife, Dottie Fawkes, of Calhoun; mother, Claranell Fawkes, of Olney; stepson, Jim Clark, of Calhoun; stepdaughter, Lori Macek and her husband, Jeff, of Prattville, Ala.; two grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Dilly and husband, Charles, of Worden; brother, Don Fawkes and his wife Janice, of Florida; two nieces; several cousins, aunts and uncles; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, one stepson, and one stepgranddaughter.
