Marjorie A. Wendling (White)

Marjorie A. (Wendling) White, age 91, of Tallula, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  Marjorie was born February 23, 1932 in Effingham County, IL, the daughter of August and Clara (Poehler) Wendling.  She married Harold White on October 25, 1952 in Pocahontas, Arkansas

Mourning her passing are her children, daughter, Rebecca (Jim) Meyer; son Dave (Kristi) White; three grandchildren, JP (Lexie) Meyer, Kayla (Austin) Shunk, and Diego White; six great-grandchildren; brother, Curt Wendling; and several nieces & nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; daughter, Barbara White; son, John White; brothers, Ralph Wendling and Kenneth Wendling; and sister, Dorothy Wendling.

Marjorie graduated from the high school in Olney, Illinois in 1950.  She later graduated from Memorial School of Nursing Class of 1954.

After graduating from Memorial School of Nursing, she worked as a nurse at Memorial Hospital.  She then worked as Administrator at Sunny Acres Nursing Home and later at the Menard County Health Department as a nurse.  Marjorie returned to Memorial Hospital in 1975, retiring in 1996.

She was a caregiver to others for the vast majority of her life whether it be as a nurse and/or mother.  She retired to take care of her husband until his death in 2000. Then her son needed care and she moved him in with her and took care of him until his death in 2009.  Later, in her 80’s she moved her daughter in with her to take care of her when she had health issues until her death 2021.

After retirement, she worked seasonally as a volunteer at New Salem State Park from 2002 until 2008.

Marjorie loved baking cookies with granddaughter, Kayla; dog sitting Tank and Bentley.  She loved to watch the progress of the tomatoes in her planter boxes built by her grandson Diego.

She loved being outside working in her yard, weedeating her yard, and helping her son cut firewood and stacking it.  She also loved sitting outside in her swing built by her grandson, JP.

Marjorie’s family was her greatest joy.  She loved them very much.  She sacrificed so much for them throughout her life.

Funeral services held at Zion Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains. Burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
