Norman C. Young - Class Of 1951

Norman C. Young

Norman Clorin Young, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 12, 2019. He was born on December 16, 1933, in Dundas, Illinois, to Clorin and Cordia (Murry) Young.

As a boy, he worked hard on the family farm with no electricity. He attended Mt. Gilead Church, established by his great grandfather. He accepted Jesus as his savior more than 75 years ago and went on to sing in the Mt. Gilead men’s quartet and led the singing in church service. After graduating from high school, Norman continued to work on the family farm and was drafted into the Army National Guard. In 1959, he married his soulmate, Barbara (Evans). Sons, Jeff and Tal, were born in the next few years.

Norman continued to work as a farmer after accepting a position as an electronics technician with Emerson Electric Company, but he always dreamed of living in the mountains of the west. This dream became reality in 1972 when he relocated his family to Lovington, New Mexico, accepting a position with Texaco as an electronic technician for the Texas-New Mexico Pipeline while also continuing to operate a farm. As a family, they traveled the entire state camping, hunting, and fishing, as well as working on the family farm together.

After retiring, Norman and Barbara moved to Tijeras, New Mexico, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They also traveled internationally and he fulfilled his lifelong dream of going to Alaska for his 50th wedding anniversary. They attend Mountain Christian Church in Cedar Crest, New Mexico. Norman devoted his life wholeheartedly to his family, and his faith in God never wavered.

Norman is survived by Barbara, his wife of 60 years; son, Jeff Young and wife, Patti; son, Tal Young; grandchildren, Canyon, Cody, and Saige; sister-in-law, Lorinda Jackson; and many extended family members and friends. We love him dearly and miss him greatly as he was the pillar of our family. Yet, we rejoice that he is enjoying a life free of pain in Heaven.

A Celebration of Life memorial service held at Mountain Christian Church, 12242 NM Highway 14, Cedar Crest, New Mexico.
