Mabel “Claire” Jennings, 85, of Olney, passed away Friday, February 22, 2019 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. She was born July 30, 1933 in Richland County, IL  daughter of Ross V and Ellen (Sutherlin) Jennings. 

Claire spent her childhood in Olney, where she enjoyed playing outside with her neighbors. Her father owned a bar and grill called S & J’s on Main Street. She especially enjoyed spending holidays at her grandparent’s house, she loved her grandmother, Eula, very much.

Claire was an RN at RMH for many years. When she was younger, she lived in St. Louis, where she completed her nursing degree at Washington University. Afterwards she went to work at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and later at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. She enjoyed interacting with the patients most of all, and was most proud of her nursing career.

She loved to travel all over the United States and Mexico, Acapulco being her favorite. Claire was an animal lover and especially enjoyed cats. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed watching NFL Football, as well. Claire took pleasure in reading and watching TV. She will be remembered most for her sense of humor and generosity.  

Claire is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved grandparents and a half-sister, Paula Jennings Hinderliter.

Cremation Rites were accorded with burial at a later date at Haven Hill Cemetery.
