Man’s Death Apparent Suicide

Olney – According to Richland County authorities, the death of Wendell Faris was the result of an apparent suicide.

Richland County Coroner, Susan Bromm said that Faris died in his home at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. Olney City Police investigated the incident and determined that no foul play was involved.

Wendell Faris, 48, of 1010 Beech St., died Tuesday night April 7, 1981 at his home.  Private services at Summers Funeral Home with Father Wayne Shipley presiding. Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery.

He was born in Richland County March 28, 1933 to Harvey and Harriett (Andrews) Faris. He married Jeanne Runyon, who survives. He was employed at Olney Dresser Atlas Co. and was a member of the Legion and VFW.

Other survivors include three sons, Kevin at home, Mike of Salem and Larry of Louisiana; a daughter, Penny Grubaugh of Olney; a step-daughter, Kimberly Runyon at home; three brothers, Marion, Florida and Walter and Fred both of Olney; two sisters, Kathryn Buckles and Joan Finch both of Grayville and one grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert.
