James Edward Burgan, age 51 of Hammond, Indiana passed away May 3, 1985 at St. Margaret Hospital in Hammond the result of a pulmonary embolus.  Services at Kuiper Funeral Home Chapel in Highland with burial in Memory Lane Cemetery in Schererville, Ind.

James was born June 15, 1933 in Illinois, a son of Vala and Geraldine (Umfleet) Burgan.  He married Ruth Katherine Taylor who died April 23, 1985.

He was employed at Inland Steel Corp. for 22 years and was a charter member and former elder of the Cline Garden Christian Church.

James is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth and parents, Vala and Geraldine Burgan.

He is survived by two daughters, Ann Burgan and Carolyn J. Burgan of Hammond; a son, Paul M. Burgan of Westville, Ind; a granddaughter, Pamela and brother, Harold Eugene (Rene) Burgan of Whiting, Ind.
