Burns Fatal to Pearl Brummett

Pearl J. Brummett, Jr. 29 of Mattoon, Illinois, and a native of Olney, Illinois, died this morning at Carle Hospital, Urbana, of burns sustained May 1.

Mr. Brummett, a substation electrician for Central Illinois Public Service Company here, was severly burned when he came into contact with 69,000 volts of electricity while connecting a portable substation at Woodland north of Watseka. He was one of a crew repairing the storm damaged substation. He had been employed at CIPS for eight years.

Mr. Brummett was born June 21, 1932 in Olney, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Pearl J.”Slim” Brummett. He was married to Shirley Ann Weber on May 5, 1957 at Mattoon. He was graduated from Olney high school and attended Purdue University for two years.

He leaves his widow, Shirley; three children, Pearl J. III, 3; Gay Ann, 1½; and Jan Arlene, 6 months; his parents of Olney; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Amerman, Olney and a brother, Larry of Mattoon.
