Olney Man is Wreck Victim

One Olney, Illinois man was injured fatally and another hurt seriously early Saturday morning, April 1, 1961, when their car was struck by a train in Vincennes, Indiana.

Danny E. Von Almen, 21, Olney, Ill. died in Good Samaritan Hospital about four hours after the accident. Loren F. Simen, 20, also of Olney was listed in serious condition with injuries to his right arm, chest and head.

Police said Von Almen was driving the car and apparently did not notice a flasher signal warning of an approaching Baltimore & Ohio passenger train headed for Cincinnati.

The automobile was pushed a block before the train could be stopped.

Danny Edward Von Almen, 21, of 523 E. South Ave., Olney died April 1, 1961 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. Services in the Memorial Chapel of Summers-Rainey Funeral Home in Olney with burial in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Danny was born April 21, 1939 in Richland County Illinois, son of Roscoe and Lela E. (Craig) Von Almen. He was single. He was a laborer at Kralis Poultry in Olney.

He is survived by his parents, Roscoe and Lela Von Almen; sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Durham of Arlington, Texas and Mrs. Betty Phillips of Claremont; brothers, Bernard Von Almen of Grayville and Ronnie Von Almen at home; grandmothers, Mrs. Louise Von Almen and Mrs. Bertha Craig both of Olney.

Pall Bearers were Billy Don Campbell, Joe Campbell, David Varner, Joe Payne, Ronnie Murphy and Gene Everett.
