Bill Neil Gibson

Bill N. Gibson Sr., 75, died February 10, 2012, in Cape Coral, Fla.  Services at Stasi-Grove Funeral Home in Olney. Interment in Maple Dale Cemetery in Olney.

He is survived by a sister, Aggie Seely, of Olney; a brother, Paul Gibson, of Olney; five children, Bill Jr., of Denver, Colo., Rick (wife, Susie), of Houston, Texas, Cindy Gibson, of Olney, Kelly Massey, of Newton, and Gregg (wife, Lenore), of Albuquerque, N.M.; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Thompson (husband, John), of The Woodlands, Texas, Nicholas Gibson, of Indianapolis, Ind., Travis Fear, of Florida, Kent Gibson (wife, Leeann), of Burke, Va., Alicia Gibson, of McCook, Neb., Michael Gibson, of Olney, Courteney Gibson (fiancé, Jeremiah Mosley), of McCook, Neb., Zach Massey, of Newton, Mary Katherine Gibson, of Houston, Texas, Hunter Gibson, of Albuquerque, N.M., Lucas Massey, of Newton, and Tatiana Gibson, of Olney; and three great-grandchildren, John David and Emily Katherine Thompson, of The Woodlands, Texas, and Landen James Mosley, of McCook, Neb.

Bill was born October 29, 1936, in Olney, to Clayton Gibson and Hazel (Smith) Gibson. He attended Olney schools and, in the early 1950s, earned the nickname “Battlin' Bill” for his feisty play as center on the Olney Tigers basketball team. He spent more than 30 years as a big-rig driver and his children contend he was arguably the best trucker in the continental United States during that time. He lived in North Fort Myers, Fla., for the past 30 years.
