Walter Coan - Class Of 1955

Walter Jerome Coan, 74, of Allen, Mich., passed away Thursday,  November 4, 2010, at Battle Creek Health Systems in Battle Creek, Mich.  Interment in Allen Cemetery. 

Mr. Coan was born May 26, 1936, in Olney, the son of Frank and Bertha (Derler) Coan. He married Eleanor Anderson on October 30, 1953. 

He was a retired oil-field worker. He was a member of Olney Elks Lodge and enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, golfing, playing cards, roller-skating and watching football on TV.  He was also a NASCAR enthusiast and was proud to have had his own car in the 1970s, known as the “Polecat.” He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Coan is survived by his wife, Eleanor Coan; four daughters, Susan Stout, of Hillsdale, Elaine (Larry) Converse, of Allen, Mich., Cindy (Ronn) Quimby, of Quincy, LaJeana Hall, of Kalkaska; three sons, Dale (Lori) Coan, of Allen, Steven (Sarah) Coan, of Allen, Mich., and Mark (Brenda) Coan, of Mt. Pleasant; four brothers, John Coan, of Olney, Eugene (Betty) Coan, of Sumner, Phillip (Ruth) Coan, of Kalkaska, and Lawrence (Janice) Coan, of Elmira; 24 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Bertha Coan; six sisters; two brothers; one daughter, Debra Quimby; two sons-in-law, Douglas Stout and Lanny Quimby; one granddaughter, Dawn Dulles; and one grandson, Larry Converse Jr.
