Dennis K. Vail

78 year old Fairfield Illinois resident, Dennis K. Vail passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 at his residence. Dennis was born on August 30, 1945 to Pat Leroy and Orpha (Sloan) Vail in Olney, Illinois. He married Tamari Puckett on September 23, 2002 in Fairfield, Illinois. 

Dennis started his working career with Union Oil Company out of Noble, Illinois working in construction and repair. He was later transferred to Unocal Oil Company in Coalinga, California, working as an inspector for Black Hawk Engineering. During his career, he worked in several states around the country.

Dennis was a member of the Elm Street Christian Church in Olney, Illinois.  Dennis and Tamara attended the 1st. Christian Church in Fairfield. Dennis was a 32nd degree mason and member of the Shrine.  Dennis was a member of the National Cutting Horse Association.  Horses were a big part of his life from a young age.  He competed for several years in cutting horse competition. He was also a avid coon hunter.

Survivors include his wife, Tamara, of Fairfield, Illinois, a son Christopher (Christy) of Mattoon, Illinois, 1 daughter, Chandra Vail of Las Vegas, Nevada, 2 step sons, Scott (Gena) Ruhl of Mt. Pulaski, IL and Kevin (Lucy) Ruhl of Fairfield, Illinois, 1 step daughter, Jennifer (Randy) Smith of Augusta, Missouri,   1 brother, Michael Vail of Batavia, Ohio. 2 grandchildren, Christa Vail, Arvada, Colorado and Danielle (Laine) Slover, Olney, Illinois 2 great grandchildren, Ever Vail and Isla Mae Slover.  4 step grandchildren; Abigail (Joshua) Meadows of Ishinomaki, Japan. Jacob Smith of Augusta, Missouri, Ruthie (Israel) Siltman of Ocala, Florida,  David Ruhl of San Diego California, Tegan Ruhl of Fairfield, Illinois and Sarah Ruhl of Fairfield, Illinois

Memorial Services for Dennis K. Vail will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the Fairfield 1st Christian Church. Burial will following at the Shrewsbury Cemetery at Mill Shoals, Illinois.  Visitation will be Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to service time at the church.

Gaytha Sue Vail (1964)

Denny was my first cousin - when we were young we played together along with his brother, Mike, and a whole troup of cousins at our grandmother's in Olney IL.  We had so much fun together.   He was a good person and we all miss him!
