Richard E. Snyder

Richard E. Snyder, age 73, of Calhoun, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at his residence. Funeral service at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Olney. Burial at Crest Haven Memorial Park in Claremont. Pastor Todd Bettis and Richland County Veterans Organization officiating.

Richard was born on May 5, 1945 in Lawrence County, the son of John Emmons and Doris Faye (Pullen) Snyder. He later married Sandra ‘Sherry’ Blackford on December 27, 1969 in Olney. She survives.

Richard was known for his compassion and expansive generosity. He was in the Army Reserves at home during the Vietnam War. For nearly 30 years, he worked for Zanetis Oil. He was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Olney, where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. He was a member of the American Legion in Olney; was a Trustee on the Calhoun Village Board and served as Mayor of Calhoun during his lifetime. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, camping and working on lawn mowers.

Richard is survived by his wife of 48 years Sandra ‘Sherry’ Snyder of Calhoun; 2 sons Jason Snyder (Bea) of Mesquite, TX and Justin Snyder (Amanda) of State College, PA; 4 brothers Charles Snyder (Janet) of Olney, Danny Snyder (Nancy) of Olney, Dick Snyder (Vickie) of Vincennes, Rick Snyder (Anita) of AZ; 3 sisters Catherine Snyder of Olney, Karen Bare (Brad) of Olney, Joann Bayler (Dave) of Paris; 5 brother-in-laws Terry Blackford (Linda) of OK, Ben Blackford (Terrie) of IN, Randy Blackford (Ann) of Olney, Dave Blackford (Darla) of Greenville, and Scott Blackford (Sue) of LA; 6 grandchildren Matthew, Christopher, Katherine, Emma, Norah, and Hudson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Doris Snyder.
