Bob Doan

Bobby Gene Doan, 73, of Arthur, Illinois died on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at OSF Sacred Heart of Mary Medical Center, Urbana.

Bobby was born July 5, 1945 in El Paso, Texas, the son of Robert and Florence (Green) Doan. He married Arlone Albert in Oakley on February 13, 1993.

Surviving are his wife, Arlone Doan of Arthur; 2 sons, Paul (Kara) Doan of Plainfield; Mark (Sharon) Doan of Effingham; 4 grandchildren, Haley Doan, Josephine Hayes, Madeline Doan, Jacob Doan; 2 stepdaughters, Nichole Minard and Sarah Gibbons of Bethany; 5 step grandchildren, Savannah Gibbons, Quintin Gibbons, Emma Minard, Colin Gibbons, Kyler Lawrence Gibbons; sister, Karen Sue (Robert) Phillips of Claremont; 2 brothers, Lonnie (Roberta) Doan of Denton, Texas; Rick (Marilee) Doan of Taylorville.

Bobby graduated from the University of Illinois with a M.S. in Education and was involved in many school systems for 35 years. He taught, coached, or served as Athletic Director in these area schools: Noble, Arthur, Pontiac, Sullivan, Tolono, and was in the administration at Bethany, Bement, and Villa Grove. He was a member of the Illinois Principal’s Association where he served on the Governors Board from 1993-2001.

After retiring he drove a milk truck for Larry Kauffman; was involved with the Arthur Area Economic Development Corporation; served as the Bourbon Twp. Tax Accessor; and owned “Second Chance Wood.”

Bobby was a member of the Arthur United Methodist Church where he was active in the Methodist Men’s group and served as the church treasurer. He also was a member of the fund-raising expansion committee. He was past president of the Illini Quarterback Club; former Rotarian; was a founding member of the Illinois Amish Heritage Center Board; and a member of the East Central Illinois Economic Development Corporation.

Funeral services held at the Arthur United Methodist Church, with burial in the Cerro Gordo Cemetery.
