Terry D. Conour

Terry D. Conour, 76, of Olney, Illinois, died on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. Terry was born August 24, 1945 in Olney, the son of Willard and Mildred (Madden) Conour. He married Georgia Oswald on May 11, 1974 in Chicago, Illinois, and she survives.

In 1965 Terry attended Olney Central College as a member of the first graduating class. He was President of the Student Senate and Salutatorian. In 1967 he received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and English from Eastern Illinois University.

Terry began his career in Rehabilitation Counseling at the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in Carbondale, Anna, and Springfield as a Casework Supervisor and Coordinator of the Juvenile Offenders Rehabilitation Program. He received a Master of Arts Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in 1975 from Southern Illinois University.

The US Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) hired Terry in 1975 and he moved to Chicago where he held various positions including Regional Commissioner for both the Chicago and Kansas City Regions. He also worked as a Program and Policy Analyst for RSA in Washington, DC. In 1995 he was awarded a Juris Doctor with Distinction in Administrative Law from DePaul University College of Law and was admitted to the Illinois Bar that same year.

Throughout his career Terry promoted disability rights in employment, access to housing, and equal opportunity in all aspects of life. Access Living located in Chicago is an organization he strongly supported.

Terry retired from Federal service in 2005 as a Senior Policy Analyst. After his retirement, Terry worked as a Rehabilitation and Disability Program Consultant with various international organizations including those in Finland, Hungary and the Philippines.

Terry loved living in Olney, enjoying the friendship of the Elks, the Petroleum Club, and the VFW Auxiliary. He was on the Board of La Gala for several years and was a member of the Olney Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling in the US as well as abroad. Time spent with his family was very important and he always loved family visits. He will certainly be missed by family and friends.

Terry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Georgia Oswald of Olney; daughter, Laura (Suzann Ordile) Conour of Newtown, PA; daughter, Katherine (Greg) Hojek of Pingree Grove, IL; grandchildren, Gillian, Elise, Benjamin, and Allison Hojek; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Bob and Jim Murphy, and sister, Patsy Tucker.

A memorial service will be held for Terry at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 1, 2022 at KistlerPatterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a visitation beginning one-hour prior.

My first friend when I moved to Claremont - we were 6 years old and Terry lived just down the street.  Many fond recollections of grade school years doing everything together boys that age do.  Thanks for the memories, Terry.
