Frank D. Von Almen - Class Of 1957

Frank D. Von Almen

Frank D. VonAlmen, 80, of Olney, died on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Wabash General Hospital.  Frank was born on March 14, 1939 in the Olney Sanitarium in Richland Co., IL, the son of Frank Otis and Marian Elizabeth (Burgener) VonAlmen.  He married Judy (Stanley) on August 9, 1964 at the Olney Nazarene Church and she survives him.

Frank was a man that will not soon be forgotten.  He lived a simplistic lifestyle and enjoyed working on homes in the community and having the time to get to know the families he was working for.  He never met a stranger.  He loved his family and was proud of us all.  Upon speaking with him shortly before his death, he said he had lived a good life, he was proud of the contributions that he had made during all of the years of working, for himself and also his community, and to his country.  He said he had enjoyed being a father and had enjoyed being a grandpa to his granddaughter and to his great grandchildren.  He felt like he had more time during his later years to be involved with his great grandchildren and he said he had really enjoyed that time with them.  He hoped he had made some impact in their lives and he did.  He had a heart of gold.  He would help anyone in need.  He got several roofing jobs by making lower quotes so those families could afford the other things needed in life.  Frank could never turn down a good hamburger, potato chip or a Goo Goo Bar.  Frank attended the Olney Nazarene Church.

Frank is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy VonAlmen; granddaughter, Ashley VonAlmen (Stephen Sharp) of Olney; great grandchildren, Davian Grimes, Mason Grimes, Lynae Goodlander (Landon, Blain, and Gabe Sharp); niece/caregiver, Stephanie (Tim) Fulk of Olney; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, David Stanley VonAlmen.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 30, 2019 at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.  Full Military Rites will be performed at the funeral home.

He will be greatly missed by his family.  He was a man of small stature, but feisty in nature.  He always tried to keep us all headed in the right direction by sharing his words of wisdom.  He always had some last-minute advice to share with you as he walked you to your car.
