Donald ‘Don’ Runyon, 86 of Olney, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at his residence in Olney.  Don was born on July 29, 1935 in Olney, the son of Oscar and Alice (Knakmuhs) Runyon. He later married Shelby Michels on March 22, 1958 in Shawneetown. She survives.

He worked as an Accountant and Office Manager at Murvin Oil in Olney for 40 years. He was also a member of the Olney VFW, Eagles Lodge and Elks. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, going fishing, bowling, and playing cards. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Don could be found at the local ball fields or gyms watching ball games and supporting all the local athletic teams. He enjoyed watching sporting events whether he had children and grandchildren playing or not.

He is survived by his wife Shelby Runyon; 4 children Dawn Kaericher (Jim), Joanna Nix (Brad), Steven Runyon (Pam), Robin VanGundy (Brian); mother-in-law Leone Michels; grandchildren Jamie Wells (Trevor), Andrea Nix, Ashley Ely (Greg), Courtney Smithenry (Steve), Erika Taylor, Chelsea Puckett (Nick), Shayne VanGundy (Abbey), Lauren Womack (Josh), Haley Cunningham (Brandon), Logan Kaericher, Derek VanGundy (Emili), Dylan Kaericher (Alice Ann), Marissa Graves (Brandon), Hannah Royse, and Kyle Nix; great-grandchildren Kaleb, Emma, Aldyn and Charlie Wells, Lexa and Case Ely, Evestyn and Graelyn Smithenry, Bryson and Levi Taylor, Thatcher and Briggs Puckett, Baylor and Hattie VanGundy, Hayden and Parker Womack, Emsley and Barek Cunningham, Beau and Sadie VanGundy, Averie and Owen Graves, Jett and Joel Royse; brother-in-law Jim Ahlfield; 2 sisters-in-law Shirley Jenkins and Thelma Runyon.

Don is preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Alice Runyon, 3 brothers Richard, Leo, and Charles (Bude) Runyon, 2 sisters Rosie Laughlin and Evelyn Ahlfield.

Memorials can be sent to Richland County Hope in memory of Donald Runyon.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Friday, March 18, 2022 in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral service will be at 11 AM on Saturday, March 19, 2022 in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at Haven Hill Cemetery at a later date. Pastor Paul Goss will be officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded.
