David W. Dailey

David Warrington Dailey of Denton, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on May 15, 2016, at the age of 82, and is now home with Jesus, his Lord and Savior. He was born in Wewoka, OK, on December 6, 1933, to Roger Lewis and Virginia Minton Dailey. David and his wife, Marilyn, have resided in Denton since 1976 and had been married for 58 years.

David's early life followed the oil industry boom of the 30's and 40's. His father worked for The National Supply Company in Ada, OK. At age five, the family moved to Olney, IL, where David attended grade school through high school. He spent his freshman year of college at Indiana University. The family then moved to Toledo, OH, in 1952 and David transferred to Purdue University to study Mechanical Engineering. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1955.

David continued his education for two more years in Boston at MIT's Sloan School of Management where he achieved a Master of Science degree in 1957. It was at Sloan where David took MIT's first computer course in Management Information Systems (MIS) and was forever "hooked". David's career paralleled the utilization of computers and the development of numerous information systems for over 40 years. He often said, "From the vacuum tube to computers on the head of a pin - what a ride!".

His initial employment was with The National Supply Company, now part of National Oilwell Varco in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1957 to 1961. Job positions ranged from programmer to project leader. It was here he met the love of his life, Marilyn. They married in September 1957 and were subsequently blessed with three wonderful children, Susan, David, and James. In 1961, the family moved to Cleveland, OH, where David was Systems and Programming Manager and later Director of MIS for Bobbie Brooks, Inc. In 1976, he answered a call to become VP of MIS for Jerell Inc. in Dallas, TX. Over his career at Jerell, his role expanded to VP of Operations. Jerell was ultimately acquired by the Haggar Clothing Company in the late 90's. He retired onJanuary 1, 2001.

David was a frequent seminar speaker and one time leader of the American Management Association. He was also a member of Tau Beta Pi national engineering honor society, Pi Tau Sigma mechanical engineering honor society, and Beta Theta Pi social fraternity.

David's community activities included Deacon at Heights Christian Church in Shaker Heights, OH; Deacon and Sunday school teacher at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church in Denton, TX; and President of Meadow Wood Homeowners Association in Lyndhurst, OH. He was a ten gallon plus blood donor. Community activities, political knowledge, and environmental concerns (Adopt a Spot) were important to him. Hobbies over the years included stamp collecting, woodworking, gardening, model railroading, railroad history, and equipment. Personal computing, information seeking, and communications were his major activities in his later years. David loved God, his family, his country and was a great patriot.
