John Tice Jr

John Tice Jr., 69, of New Canton, passed away early Friday morning September 20, 2013, at his residence.

He was born November 6, 1943 in Olney, to John and Virginia Gill Tice. He married Sue Butler May 28, 1994 at the park in Barry, and she survives. John attended elementary and high school in Olney.

He went on to attend DeVry Technical School in Chicago. He served his country in the Army National Guard for several years. He returned to Olney and was employed by Roadmaster factory. John worked as a bookkeeper for B.F. Goodrich and eventually managed locations in Illinois and Missouri. He owned his own tire business in Mt. Carmel, for several years. For most of John's life, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. John moved to Pike County, where he owned and operated several hunting lodges providing guide services and other programs to hunters. In this environment, he was able to fully enjoy his love of the outdoors. John was of the Christian faith, having been baptized at the age of 12. He attended church with his family at Elm Street Christian Church in Olney.

John is survived by his mother, Virginia Tice of Pittsfield, his wife, Sue of New Canton, along with two daughters, Amy (Dave) Ridgley of Vincennes, Ind., and Nicole (Anthony) Bareis of Barry, and a son David (Alisa) Butler of Oak Grove, Ky. John had four grandchildren; Dane Ridgley, Addison and Alysa Bareis and Ryan Butler. He is also survived by a nephew Anthony Tice of Orlando Fla., a niece Jennifer Anaya of Clarksville, Tenn., and his Aunt Dorthy Moore of Tampa, Fla.

John was preceded in death by his father, John Tice Sr., a brother Steve Tice and uncles Kenneth, Robert and Ed Tice and an aunt, Frances Bowman.

In accordance with John's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. His ashes will be spread over his favorite fishing spot in his beloved home county and the remainder buried at West Village Cemetery in Edwards County, where private family services will be held at a later date.
