Nancy J. Gumbel (Courter)

Nancy J. (Gumbel) Courter, 80, passed away during the early morning hours of December 31, 2023, at the Villages of Oak Ridge in Washington, Indiana. She was born in Olney, Illinois, June 20, 1943, to Howard and Maude (Runyon) Gumbel. She was married to Zane Courter, and he survives.

Nancy graduated from high school in Olney and went on to complete secretarial college in Evansville. She worked as a secretary for her family's business, Gumbel Sales. She also co-owned an antique store with her sister-in-law, Shirley Gumbel. She later worked as a unit secretary at the Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, and at Wolfe's Auto Auctions.

Nancy loved her pets, enjoyed shopping and collecting antiques, decorating her home, and taking trips with her husband.

Those who mourn Nancy's passing include her husband, Zane Courter of Washington; daughter Stephanie (Frank) Perry of Charleston, Illinois; grandchildren: Andrea Perry of Cambridge, Massachusetts; Frank N. Perry; Jenna Perry; Reagan Perry; Faith Perry all of Charleston, Illinois; sister-in-law, Shirley Gumbel of Olney, Illinois; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Vaughn and Sandy Courter of Allendale, Illinois. Nancy leaves several beloved nieces and nephews, as well as other cherished extended family members.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Maude and Howard Gumbel; and her brother, David Gumbel.

A graveside service will be held at a later date.
