Larry Dowty

Larry Dale "Runt" Dowty, 69 of Claremont, died at 5:40 PM, Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Deaconess Hosptial in Evansville.

Larry was born April 18th, 1943 in Olney. He was the son of Lester and Lora (Doan) Dowty. He married Janet Litherland on June 14, 1964. She survives.

Larry graduated from Olney High School in 1961. He was a lifetime farmer and spent some time working in the local oil fields. He was also Claremont Township Road Commissioner for 13 years. Larry was a member of First United Methodist Church in Olneym and also was a lifetime member of the Olney FFA Alumni Association.

Larry loved his 10 grandkids and watching them in all their activities and accomplishments. He really enjoyed spending time with them on the farm and being outdoors, riding tractors, four wheelers, golf carts, and climbing on the rock piles.

He is also survived by his four children, Susan (Dan) Wertman of Bristol, Indiana, Sandy (Kevin) Doser of Claremont, Steve Dowty of Claremont, and Scott (Michelle) Dowty of Clarement. His surviving grandkids include Keith and Betsy Wertman, Rachel (Jacob) Fritschle, Ben, Tyler, and Kaitlyn Dowty, and Shelby, Kyle, and Miranda Dowty, along with a great grandchild due in September. "Adopted" daughter Cory of Minnesota also survives. Other survivors include brother, Gary (Mary) Dowty of Olney, sisters, Judy Umfleet of Olney, and Linda (Harry) Gumble of Lancaster, TN, and brother-in-law, Jon (Becky) Litherland of Vincennes, along with several nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, grandson, Erik Doser, and brother-in-law, Jerry Umfleet.
