L. Wayne Pitts, 77, of Olney, Illinois, died on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at his residence. Wayne was born on November 13, 1944 in Olney, Illinois, the son of Sherman Pitts and Opal (Jennings) Pitts. He married Nancy (Bursott) on June 1, 1990 in Olney, and she survives.

Wayne enjoyed Illini basketball games and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He took pleasure in keeping track of local agriculture. Wayne was a big supporter of FFA and 4-H. When Wayne was in high school, he received his State and American Degrees in FFA. Wayne considered himself a lifelong farmer but also worked for and retired from IDOT. He was also a member of the Illinois National Guard from 1964-70. Wayne served on the District School Board and Richland County Board.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Nancy Pitts of Olney; son, Brent Pitts and wife Sheri of Olney; son, Eric Pitts and wife Babbs of Olney; step-son, Rodney Goble and companion Renee Richardson of Huntington, IN; step-son, Jayson Goble and wife Shurron of Oblong, IL; grandchildren, Brittany (Taylor) Akers, Sydney Pitts, Hayley Pitts, Clayton Pitts, Ellison Pitts, Craig (Kari) Goble, Andrew (Kendra) Goble, Erin Goble, Cera Goble, Payslen Goble, Nash Goble, and Sutton Goble; great grandchildren, Conner Akers, Lexie Akers, Emma Goble, and Fennley Goble; brother, Larry Pitts; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jason Pitts.

A visitation will be held for friends and family on Sunday, November 21, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.

A funeral service will be held for Wayne at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 22, 2021 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.
