Jerry Umfleet

Jerry Melvin Umfleet, 63, of Olney, died Monday, November 22, 2004, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.  Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney.

Mr. Umfleet was born on August 23, 1941, in Richland County, the son of Hobart Melvin and Dora Blanche (Taylor) Umfleet. He married Judith L. Dowty on November 22, 1962, in Claremont. She survives.

He was a retired Fire Chief for the city of Olney. He joined the Olney Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter in July 1964. He was promoted to regular firefighter on July 1, 1970, and was appointed Fire Chief on November 4, 1974. He served as Fire Chief until May 1, 1987. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Olney

Mr. Umfleet is survived by his wife, Judith Umfleet, of Olney; five children, David M. Umfleet and his wife, Debra Ann, of Haskell, Okla., Dianna Rademacher and her husband, J.R., of Holland, Ind., Darla K. Clark and her husband, Donnie, of Florence, Ky., Amanda Bower and her husband, Scott, of Olney, and Douglas A. Umfleet and his wife, Alissa, of Calhoun; two brothers, Gene Umfleet and Jack Umfleet, both of Olney; a sister, Linda Stadge, of Olney; his father- and mother-in-law, Lester and Lora Dowty, of Claremont; and 13 grandchildren, Dusty and Kendra, Blake and Cody, Megan and Morgan, Trevor, Ethan and Christopher, and Seth, Kaleb, Naaman and Josiah.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Wanda Bourne.
