Tom R. Haynes

Former Douglas County Coroner, Thomas Riley Haynes, 82 loving husband and father, died Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Papillion Country Estates, Omaha, Nebraska.

Tom leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Sandra E. Haynes; daughter, Jennifer Leigh Haynes; cousin and wife, Joe and Hong Fox of Olney, Illinois; cousin, Connie Murdock of Florida; and childhood friends, Steve and Shelby Walser.

Tom had a variety of careers having joined the Army as a Private. He was stationed in Germany. He soon was a Warrant Officer and received flight training and went on to become a Major. He obtained multiple degrees, the last being his Law Degree. Tom was an Attorney in the Douglas County Attorney’s office and was given the position of Acting Coroner. He made lots of friends and acquaintances in this position. Tom loved to read, listen to music, and travel. Tom visited most of Europe and the USA (his favorite being Yellowstone National Park). Tom was privileged to take a 10-day trip to Jerusalem.

Tom was preceded in death by half-sister, Patty Jackson; along with his parents and grandparents.

Tom will be sorely missed by his wife and daughter, as well as his daughter’s caregiver, Angie Goodloe, sisters and brothers in Christ and remaining friends and relatives. Tom was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in La Vista.  

Funeral service Tuesday, February 6th at 11:00 a.m. at the West Center Chapel, with VISITATION beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Interment with Military Honors: Tuesday, 2:30 p.m. at Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Rd., Omaha, Nebraska
