Driver dies after hitting trees
A Leesville, La., man died late Saturday when his car struck two trees in rural Tyler County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Benjamin L. Fleeharty, 26, was driving a two-door Chevrolet Monte Carlo south on U. S. 69 at 11:20 p. m. when he lost control and drove into the southbound ditch, according to a report filed by DPS Trooper Gregory Evans. Fleeharty steered out of the ditch and skidded across the highway into the northbound ditch.
His car struck two trees, one at the front, and one at the rear, according to Evans' report. Fleeharty was speeding, according to the report.

Specialist Benjamin Lloyd Fleeharty, 26, of Fort Polk, La., and formerly of Olney, died at 11:20 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009, in Tyler County, Texas. Mr. Fleeharty was born on June 11, 1982, in Olney, the son of Jack Fleeharty and Kelly (Martin) Fleeharty-Gorrell.
He was a Combat Medic in the U.S. Army and a member of Mt. Gilead Church. He was a Boy Scout for nine years and participated in JROTC throughout high school at ERHS. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 2007 and attended Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and Combat Medic Training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He served in South Korea at Camps Casey and Stanley as an NREMT Duty Ambulance Attendant. He was currently serving at Fort Polk, La., as a health-care specialist.
Mr. Fleeharty is survived by his father, Jack Fleeharty and his wife, Ada, of Olney; mother, Kelly Fleeharty-Gorrell and her husband, Gary of Olney; brother, Logan Fleeharty and his wife, Miranda of Columbus, Ind.; stepsister, Amber Miller and her husband, Tad, of Peoria; grandparents, Don and Ramona Craig of Clay City; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Lloyd and Letha Martin; grandfather, Fred Fleeharty; and aunt, Tricia Martin.
Services held at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney with burial in Trobaugh Cemetery in rural Richland County with full military rites performed by the U.S. Army.
