Donald Leroy Hoover

Donald L. Hoover, 90, of Paxton, Illinois died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Paxton.  A memorial service  held at Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton, with the Rev. John Hauck officiating. A private burial held in Glen Cemetery in Paxton.

Mr. Hoover was born July 31, 1926, near Dundas, Ill., the son of Thomas and Rena Garnier Hoover. He married Barbara Lee Butler in Paris, Ill., on Aug. 28, 1949. They were married 67 years. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Paul Scott Hoover of Paxton; two daughters, Carol Hartig of Schaumburg and Yvonne (Jeffrey) Meessmann of Presque Isle, Wis.; four grandchildren; and a special friend, Kammy Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Jack Hartig; and a sister, Jane, in infancy.

After graduating from Olney High School in 1944, Mr. Hoover served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for Ameren CIPS for most of his career. He and his wife lived in many CIPS towns, including Paris, Mattoon, Hoopeston, Pana and Paxton.

Mr. Hoover was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Paxton and was active in many community affairs. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and he had a passion for deer hunting with his son.
