Iva Laretta Williamson (Cox)

Iva Laretta (Williamson) Cox, 87, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at the Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, AZ. She was born to Homer J and Ruth Marie (Hunter) Williamson on March 15, 1934, in Richland County, Illinois.

Iva met and married William Hubert Cox on March 15, 1957. They later had 2 children, Fred Homer Cox and Connie Sue Cox. Bill & Iva were married for 51 1 /2 years until his passing in 2008.

Iva was preceded in death by her mother & father, Homer and Ruth; brother Venda Williamson; sister, Ella Mae Ledeker; husband, William and son, Fred.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie Sue Hunt (Waylon) of Glendale, AZ, 2 Grandchildren, Brandon Anthony Hunt (Katelynn) Of Prescott Valley, AZ and Darlene Louise Shugart (David) of Surprise, AZ along with 8 great grandchildren, Gage William, Mason Cooper, Reagan Pearl, and Hadley Mae Hunt also Brody Joshua, Easton Dwayne, Jaxon James and Nolan Ryker Shugart. Her great grandkids brought her so much joy and happiness. She loved all of them with all her heart. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Frutiger (Carrol), of Clay City, IL along with several nieces and nephews.

Iva was a long-time member of the Glendale Christian Church in Glendale, AZ. She was involved with AZ Compassion in Action for years. She had a big heart to always help those who needed help. She was also involved in the ladies Bible study at the church, where she made many great friends. She worked for the Phoenix Union High School District in Phoenix, AZ. She was a registration clerk in the high schools in the district until her retirement some years ago.

Iva entered into rest in the afternoon of November 3, 2021 after falling ill for some time. She passed away peacefully while nurses played gospel music for her. She will be laid to rest in the Orchard Hill Cemetery in Louisville, IL next to her husband.
