George Davis

George Hardman Davis, age 47, a lifelong resident of Olney, passed away Monday morning, March 21, 1955, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Marion. He had been a patient there for the past week.

George was born April 30, 1907 in Olney, Illinois son of John Q. and Catherine M. (Hardman) Davis.

Mr. Davis, a World War II veteran, entered service on January 30, 1942 and served in the 130th infantry and was separated from the service on October 10, 1945. He had served two and 1/2 years on foreign soil and participated in the battles of New Guinea and on Luzon. He was awarded bronze stars for participating in these campaigns and the meritorious SV plaque for the 330th Infantry Regiment.

He leaves his wife the former Leona Doan; his mother Mrs. Quin Davis of Olney, two cousins, D.D. McCarty of Olney and Richard Hardman of Greencastle, Indiana.

Funeral services held in the Memorial Chapel of the Summers Wilson funeral home with the Rev. A. O. Jacobs officiating. Interment with full military honors rendered by the Olney Veterans Organization in Haven Hill Cemetery.
