Frank Broyles - Class Of 1932

Frank Montgomery Broyles, 84, of Tucson, Arizona died Monday September 18, 2000 at his home.  Funeral services held at Adair Funeral Home, Avalon Chapel, Tucson.

Mr. Broyles was born September 19, 1915 in a farm house in Clay County, the son of James Albert and Mary Belle Broyles.  He married Wanda Sutherlin.  She preceded him in death, he later married Ethel Broyles and she survives.

He was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, where he excelled in track and cross-country, worked part time as an auto mechanic and graduated with a teaching degree in math and industrial arts.  He taught and coached at several Central Illinois high schools, including Gillespie Community High School.  He was proud to have served his country in the Army Air Force as an engine mechanic on B-24s and B-17s; and later worked as a civilian for the Air Force as a jet engine mechanic instructor.

Mr. Broyles moved to Tucson in 1951, worked at Grand Central Aircraft Company and then Hughes Aircraft Company, from which he retired after 25 years.

Mr. Broyles is survived by his wife, Ethel Broyles; a daughter, Anne L. Broyles; a son, William F. Broyles; a step-son and step-daughters; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Wanda Sutherlin Broyles; parents; sister, Edna Mae Broyles and son, James A. Broyles.
