William Lynn Schaub

William “Bill” L. Schaub, 58 a longtime journalist and public servant in Illinois, has died of cancer on Monday, November 24, 1986 in a Springfield hospital.

Schaub was born October 19, 1928 in Olney, Illinois, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville E. Schaub of Olney. He served in the Korean War with the  U.S. Marine Corps, reaching the rank of captain.

Survivors include his wife, Emily Eagleson Schaub; a daughter, Christine; three sons, William Schaub, John Schaub and Edward Schaub; and a brother, Robert Schaub.

He was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington with a degree in Journalism. He began his journalism career in Olney in 1953 as city editor of the Olney Daily Mail.  After leaving Olney in 1956, he held many posts, including State Editor of Chicago’s American; assistant editorial director of WBBM-TV in Chicago; information chief for Attorney General William G. Clark and also William J. Scott. From 1975 to 1977 he served as chief administrative assistant to Illinois Lt. Governor Neil F. Hartigan; 1977-78 he was assistant to the president of the Illinois Senate; from 1978-83 he was task force director information chief for the office of the comptroller and from 1983 until his death was administrative assistant for the Attorney General.
