Aaron R. Kaufman - Class Of 1916

Aaron Rhode Kaufman, age 100, died Friday, May 8, 1998 at the Columbia/JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, New Jersey.  He died of natural causes.

Mr. Kaufman was born November 29, 1897 in Illinois, son of Aaron and Florence B. (Preston) Kaufman. (According to early 1900’s Census records, the Kaufman family lived in Olney, Illinois.)

Mr. Kaufman is survived by his wife, Carry of Palm Beach; his son, Harold Kaufman, M.D. of Washington D.C.; grandchildren, Nikolas Kaufman, Nancy Dalva and Donald Kaufman; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Portia L. Kaufman Palmer.

Mr. Kaufman was a prominent Judge, Attorney and Philanthropist in his native Elizabeth, New Jersey, where he practiced law for over 50 years, before moving to Palm Beach 30 years ago.

Mr. Kaufman was a founding member of the Banyan Club. Last year, Mr. Kaufman at the age of 100, received an honorary award for his support of the Palm Beach Opera.

Private services held for the family. Quattlebaum-Holleman-Burse Funeral Home of West Palm Beach is handling Mr. Kaufman’s cremation.
