Blaine Harrison (1975)

In 1981, I had taken a job that turned out to be the foundation of my career.  The company was paying to move me.  That was great news except that I was worried about somebody loading all of my posessions into a truck and driving off.
The morning of the move, the driver called because he'd been given a wrong house number, so I drove off to direct him to our duplex.  He got backed into the drive and went into the house to take a look.  As I walked up to the truck, my fears of having my posessions stolen completely disappeared.  I read the name on the truck and realized there probably were not two Steve Turnipseeds in the world!
Ironically, Steve was inside my house and asking my new bride (of two months) if there could possibly be two Blaine Harrisons in the world.
Nearly 40 years later, this is still one of my favorite stories of my lifetime.  Steve was a friend and high school golf team mate.  I am sorry to hear of his passing, but know this story involving him will be with me forever.

Jim Bones (1973)

I saw Blaine's comment about Steve being on the golf team, which reminded me of at least two things about Steve that I can put in print.  In general, with Steve being the only senior on the team (if my faulty memory serves me), he filled the role of #1 player and team leader if not captain, but not sure we were organized enough to have a captain.  However, if we were, then Steve would have been the "man".  In that role, Steve taught us to enjoy the game, don't take ourselves too seriously, and  to realize how great it was to get our Physical education credits on the golf course.  Steve was always quick witted, but whenever one of us was facing a daunting shot, usually amongst some trees, Steve's suggestion was to pull out the trusty "tree wood".  As is the case, I regret not crossing paths with Steve after high school, so I could embarras him with these stories in person.  Thank you, Steve!
