Regina Spillman (Mitchell)

Regina Gail (Spillman) Mitchell, 56, of Claremont, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on July 11, 2020. Regina was born on July 5, 1964 in Olney, IL daughter of Marlin and Anita (Mowrer) Spillman.

She graduated from East Richland High School in 1982.  She married Perry Mitchell on October 26, 1985, and they loved and laughed together for 34 years.  They’ve owned a turkey farm operation since 1990.  She graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1987 with her teaching degree.  She was employed at KCRC in Vincennes, IN until 1990.  She was then employed at Red Hill Community District 20 in Bridgeport, IL, where she was a Special Education teacher for 28 years and a fourth-grade math teacher for 3 years.  She was involved in the Teacher’s Union for 20 years and was president for the last 3 years. She never met a child that she didn’t love.

Regina loved doing anything outdoors, and she took pride in her beautiful flower gardens. She also enjoyed traveling, cooking, decorating birthday cakes for her family, and the St. Louis Cardinals; she especially loved watching her favorite player Harrison Bader. However, she loved her family more than anything, especially her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Regina also had a fearless love for God, and she was a member of the Calhoun Christian Church of Calhoun, IL, where she worshipped faithfully.

She was involved in the Olney Little League from 1997-2011, and she held the Secretary position for 8 years. She was also involved in the Relay for Life for several years. Regina enjoyed giving back to her community and helping others. She was full of laughter and was fun-loving and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Regina is survived by husband, Perry Mitchell of Claremont, IL; son Brandon Mitchell and wife Marcy and grandchildren Lilly, Landon and Marlin of Claremont; sons Brock Mitchell of Claremont, IL; Bryce Mitchell of Claremont, IL and girlfriend Sarah Mewes; brother Dale Spillman and wife Dotti and nieces Bayli and Emma of Olney, IL; brother Roger Spillman and wife Cheri of Olney, IL and nephew and niece Jordan and Alyssa Spillman of Evansville, IN.

Regina was preceded in death by her parents, her father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Maxine Mitchell of Noble, IL along with several loving uncles.

Regina was part of my extended family.   She was like sister to me.  I can't count the number of times our families were together.  She is an amazing Daughter if God. We are blessed to know she has gone home and is in no pain.  I know she is standing beside my sister holding hands and having a great time together.  We are all blessed to have had her in our lives.   -Rob Terrell

Regina and I graduated HS together.  Even though I haven't seen her in years, I remember her as being very kind and funny.   My condolences go out to her family and her friends. I know she is resting peacefully and in no pain.  -Donna Marcellini Robinson
