Cynthia F. Zerkle

Cynthia F. "Cindy" Zerkle, 66, of Olney, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. Cindy was born March 18, 1958 in Olney, IL, the daughter of James Zerkle and Marjorie Lloyd (Combs) Zerkle. She married Eric John Trost on September 13, 2009 at their home in Olney, and he preceded her in death on April 25, 2023.

Cindy served in the US Army for nine years and was honorably discharged in 2001. She worked in the motor pool, with heating and air conditioning as her MOS. After being discharged, she worked as an instructor at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. Later, she decided to move back home to Olney and completed the Radiology program at OCC.

Cindy was a loving mother and grandmother who always enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved decorating her house and hosting parties and family Christmases, where she would create and craft her own games and party decor. She was also an incredible baker, and she enjoyed cooking for her family and coworkers. She loved her job, and even when she didn't feel well, she wanted to remain working all she could despite receiving regular dialysis treatments. Cindy was always able to make people feel special and celebrated for their birthdays and milestones.

Cindy also enjoyed having fires in her backyard, where she and her family would gather to roast marshmallows. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her plants and flowers, both indoor and outdoor. Cindy also loved her dogs Dusty and Lucy. She was also a skilled and creative seamstress, able to do alterations for friends and family, also doing some quilting and making her own placemats. She also was able to put together a t-shirt quilt for a friend when requested as a gift. She enjoyed watching movies, having a large collection of Clint Eastwood films. She enjoyed finding treasures at thrift stores and finding a good deal.

Cindy was the strongest, most loved woman that we have ever known and was overall, a beautiful, loving, and selfless soul who was taken much too soon. She will be dearly missed by all those that knew her.

Cindy is survived by her daughter, Trina (Pat) Canada of Newton, IL; grandchildren, Gavin Harmon and Peyton and Logan Canada; brothers, Roger (Donna) Zerkle and Tom (Cindy) Zerkle and several nieces and nephews.
