John Gainer James, 49, of Bettendorf, Iowa died Monday, April 30, 1984 at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Iowa City.

His funeral will be held at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, The Reverend Bert Lancaster officiating. Burial in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington.

Mr. James was born December 6, 1934 in Olney, Illinois, a son of John Gainer and Katherine (Pick) James. He married Wenona Bacon in 1970 in Bloomington. She survives.

Other survivors include his mother in Branson, Missouri; three sons, Steven Boettcher in Bloomington, Jay James in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Jeff James stationed with the Marines in Japan; a sister, Katherine Fulford in Forsyth, Missouri and a grandson.

A sister preceded him in death.

Mr. James was a Real Estate Agent.
