Jason Ochs - Class Of 1995

Jason Ochs, 43, of Robinson, IL, died Friday, July 9, 2021, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born July 13, 1977, the son of Patrick & Cassandra Ochs.

He grew up in both Oregon and Illinois. Though he played football at Robinson High School, he would graduate from Richland County High School. Eventually, he made the decision to further his education at Lincoln Trail College, where he studied Telecommunications and even earned his way onto the Dean's List and President's List. He used his newfound knowledge to find a job boring holes for Endeavor Communications out of Cloverdale, IN, and quickly worked his way up to group leader. It was a job he truly enjoyed before an injury permanently sidelined him, though Jason still spoke fondly of the many jobs he worked at that period of time in his life.

Even though he couldn't continue working in this capacity, he still kept busy. In short, Jason refused to sit still and busied himself helping others however he could, though he often had to do so through poor health and pain. Still, if you needed help, he was there, no matter what. In this way, many considered him a "Superman" of sorts. After all, his 43 years were characterized by strength, namely, a strength of spirit that reminded us all that life is what you make it. Indeed, Jason's life wasn't always easy, but he lived out of a deep-seated sense of faith, love, and of course, humor. In getting to know him, it wouldn't have taken long to recognize his one-of-a-kind brand of comedy that he carried with him wherever he went. Even in the toughest of circumstances, he consistently chose joy. Needless to say, his beloved family have countless fun and happy memories to look back on: memories of playing spirited games of kickball and football with Jason; memories of family cookouts where he was able to spend time with those he loved most while exercising his exemplary culinary skills; memories of phone calls, simple check-ins to let them know how much he loved them. He didn't really need to, as he showed them love day-in and day-out. His was a love that was so selfless and sacrificial in nature that it pointed others to Jesus. Though he was a member of the Crawford County Christian Center (4Cs), it was the way he lived his life that bore evidence to his relationship with God. In our grief, let us not forget that "if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens."

Holding on to this hope is his wife of 11 years, Melissa Ochs (Robinson, IL); their eight children, Jordan & wife Sadie Douglas (Oblong, IL), Zack Douglas (Robinson, IL), Haley Ochs (Olney, IL), Nathaniel Ochs (TX), Skyler Douglas (Robinson, IL), Taylor Ochs (Olney, IL), Alex Douglas (Vincennes, IN), and Jesika Ochs (Olney, IL); by his foster son and nephew, Remington (Robinson, IL); by his grandchildren, Willow Douglas, Liam Miller, Lucas Miller, and Carson Miller; his parents, Patrick & Sharon Ochs (Robinson, IL); his brothers, Bill Johnson (Robinson, IL) and Cyril Darrel-Neal (Clay City, IL); his blood-brother, Shawn Richards (MT); his sisters, Miranda & husband Richard Sutfin (Mt. Vernon, IN), Jessica Ochs (Olney, IL), and Heather Johnson (Robinson, IL); his grandmothers, Judy Darrel (Olney, IL) and Betty Ochs (Ste. Marie, IL); his Aunt Teresa & Uncle Bill Ikemire (Oblong, IL); his close friend, Katie Bledsoe (Oblong, IL); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
