Verna Von Almen (Spiker) - Class Of 1911

Verna E. (VonAlmen) Spiker, 97, of Decatur, Illinois died Wednesday, February 17, 1999 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Services in Dawson & Wikoff West Wood St. Funeral Home with burial in Graceland Cemetery.

Mrs. Spiker was born in Olney, Illinois on December 1, 1901 the daughter of Frederick and Louise (Wagner) VonAlmen. She married Charles E. Spiker on December 31, 1920 in Olney. He preceded her in death September 2, 1976.

She was a member of Foursquare Gospel Church and Grace United Methodist Church. She was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of VFW Auxiliary.

Surviving are her son, Derrell Spiker Sr. of Decatur; sisters, Virginia Chandler of Flora and Margaret Varner of Olney; brothers, Maurice VonAlmen and wife, Rose of Merrillville, Ind and Frederick VonAlmen of Florida; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Charles F. Spiker, seven brothers and two sisters.
