Ray W. Perkins, 84, of Spanaway, Washington died Thursday, June 4, 1981. Born in Sumner, Illinois on March 12, 1897 son of Advan A. and Evaline (Corrie) Perkins, he had lived in Pierce County 40 years.
He was a county school teacher, a free-lance writer, an Indian Agent and supervisor of the federal program for housing for Alaska Indians and Eskimos.
Mr. Perkins was the past president of the Tacoma Writers Club and the Pacific Northwest Writers Conference. He graduated from Georgetown University School of Law and was an Army veteran of World War I. He was also a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Katharina; a son, John Bachmann of Odengton, MD; two daughters, Kathleen Kennedy and Patricia Jones both of Spanaway; two sisters, Florence Dennis of Columbus, OH and Vera McBride of Olney, Illinois; ten grandchildren.
Mr. Perkins and his wife also reared 23 foster children.
