Ella Laxton Johnston (Byrne) - Class Of 1905

Ella L. (Johnston) Byrne, one of Olney's highly respected and most beloved ladies passed away at her home, 835 East Main street on Friday August 12, 1955 after seven months illness.

Mrs. Byrne, who was born in Madison township, Richland county, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Johnston. She lived in Olney most of her life, and retired from an active business career a year ago.

Also she was active in the First Methodist Church of which she was a faithful member since childhood, and this year marks the 50th anniversary of her membership in the church choir. Other organizations to which she belonged included the Business and Professional Women's Club, Clio Club, Chapter FR or PEO, and other civic and social groups.

Cousins who survive, living in this and surrounding communities are: Mrs. Amy Williams, Mrs. Anna Scranton, Mrs. Lola Meadows, Mrs. Catherine Berry, Mrs. Sybil Campbell, Mrs. Edith Hunt, and William R. Johnston, all of Olney, and Ray and Leonard McNeil and Mrs. Myrtle McCarroll of Lawrenceville, and Mrs. Laxton Byrne Lingren of Joliet, IL.

Funeral services held at the First Methodist Church, with Rev. Paul W. Ragsdale officiating, assisted by Dr. L. S. McKown. Burial at Haven Hill cemetery.
