Larry J. Brown

Larry J. Brown, 74, of Olney, died Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. Cremation rites accorded. Memorial services held at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney with Pastor Dale Akers officiating. Full military rites performed following the service by Olney veterans organizations.

Mr. Brown was born May 27, 1940, in Sumner, the son of John T. and Edna (Stivers) Brown.  He married Linda Harnishfeger on September 9, 1961, in Shawneetown. She survives.

Larry loved to play the guitar for his friends and family. He would often participate in guitar jamborees in local establishments. Larry enjoyed fishing and playing with his grandkids. He took pleasure in watching his kids play sports when they were younger. He loved his family immensely and they were the most important people in his life. Linda was his lifelong love and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage together. He was a member of First United Church of Christ. Larry was a U.S. Army veteran.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda (Harnishfeger) Brown, of Olney; sons, Rob Brown and wife Donna, of Olney and Aaron Brown and wife Linda, of Olney; daughter, Shelia Brown-Pianfetti and husband Steven, of Warrensburg; grandchildren, Dustin Brown and wife Sara, Grace Pianfetti, Ian Pianfetti, and Miles Pianfetti; great-grandchildren, Alexis Brown, Ashton Brown, and Brayden Brown; step-grandchildren, Chad Pianfetti, Anthony Pianfetti, Tasha Briggs, and Bobby Brooks; brother, Wayne Brown; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois and Robert J. Smith, of Decatur; a special niece, Brenda Knuckles and family, of Decatur; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings.

Janice Bagwell (Ma) (1961)

So sorry to read of Larry's death.  We lived across from him when we lived at 820 W. Elm and I remember how well he liked to sing and I think, if I remember correctly, that he was already playing the guitar at that time too.  I remember him as a very nice teenager.  I also remember his cousin Neil Brown (again if my memory is correct) dying tragically young.  I'm so sorry for your family's loss.

Judith Petty (Johnson) (1958)

I just remember Larry's smile, the one he's wearing right now.  I'm saddened that he passed away at so young an age. My condolences to his family.  would also like to correct the marriage years, if they were married in 1961, then they would have had 58 years together.
