Lucile Bosomworth (Parkersburg Elem -3, 4)

N. Lucile Bosomworth, 93, of Olney died Thursday April 1, 2010 in Burgin Manor, Olney. Services in First United Methodist Church, Olney, with the Rev. Scott Carlson officiating. Burial in Stein-Stine Cemetery, St. James (Fayette County, IL).

Lucile was born Feb. 10, 1917, near Roby, the daughter of Edward K. and Bertha Chapman Waters. She attended schools in Roby and Owaneco and graduated from Taylorville High School. She received her bachelor's degree at Illinois State University at Normal in 1940 and her master's degree at Eastern Illinois University at Charleston, in 1962.

Lucile taught school for 27 years in Bethany, Parkersburg, Calhoun and Olney. She was former president of the Moutrie County Education Association and active as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society . She was a counselor for breast cancer survivors, an active member of the Methodist Church, longtime member of CLIO Club and assisted her husband in supporting the Richland Heritage Museum and his genealogical research. As a result of that research, Lucile learned she was a descendant of John Alden, John Howland and William Brewster, all who came to this country on the Mayflower. Lucile was a member of the Mayflower Society and Daughters of the American Revolution.

She married Elwyn "E.L" Bosomworth on June 29, 1941, in Hornbeck, Tenn. They had more than 68 years of a loving marriage.

Surviving are her husband; son, Kevin Bosomworth of Spring, Texas; granddaughter, Kelly Harburg of Tampa, Fla.; three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Lyndal "Steve"; and brothers, Harold, Wilber and Edward.
