Charles O. Schell, age 86, of Oregon, Illinois died Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital following a sudden illness.  He was born June 19, 1937 in Wayne County, Illinois the son of Cecil and Elizabeth (Hilliard) Schell. 

Charles graduated from Olney High School in Olney, Illinois.  He married Helen Chaplin on Jan. 18, 1958.  Charles worked several years for Industrial Form Grinding in Rockford, IL.  He liked to work in his yard, work on cars, go fishing with his son, watch old westerns, especially “Gunsmoke”.  Charles was known to his family and friends as being a jokester. 

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Helen, his son Mike Schell, his son-in-law David Dwyer, and 3 brothers Ivan, Phillip, and Roy Schell. 

He is survived by his 3 daughters: Debbie Scoles of Freeport; Jackie (Brad) Hollandsworth of Rockford; and Mary Dwyer of Leaf River; his brother Jerry (Glenda) Schell of Cisne, IL.; 2 sisters: Janice Lowe of Cisne, IL; and Betty Kasten of Cisne, IL; grandchildren: Christopher McCanse, Holly Banghart, Charles McCanse, Brittany Hollandsworth, Jennifer (Travis) Hall, Lukas (Meg) Dwyer, Derek (Jennifer) Dwyer, Cecil (Brekk) Revels, and Ashley Schell; and 8 great grandchildren. 

Funeral service will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, Sept. 1, 2023 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7^th Street in Oregon, IL with the Pastor Michael Hoffman officiating.  Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at the Daysville Cemetery near Oregon.
