Ronald E. Garner

Ronald Ernest Garner, 86, of Mabank, Texas, formerly of Big Spring, was a proud veteran of the USAF, he died Saturday, September 21, 2024. He was born on November 11, 1937 in Charleston, IL to Ernest & Mary Marguerite Garner. He married Peggy Thorp on February 26, 1981 in Big Spring. She preceded him in death on November 27, 2014.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family.

He joined the military in March 1956 at age 18 he was honorably discharged in March 1977. He retired as a Staff Sgt after 21 years. During his service he received many awards. He received an Award and Commendation medal in 1967 where he distinguished himself as an F4C crew chief, in the 433rd Tactical Fighter Squadron, Ubon Royal Thai Airforce Base in Thailand. He served in Japan, Iceland, Thailand, Homestead FL. and here at Webb Airforce base in Big Spring, that's where he retired. He had outstanding knowledge and professional skill in aircraft mechanics and maintenance, that resulted in downing many hostile aircraft in the Vietnam War. And in adverse conditions he maintained his aircraft to its top condition, for preparation in combat. Many read of his exemplary work, and efforts were immensely appreciated and immeasurable, and were reflected in his records from the USAF. Being a Vietnam Vet he was extremely proud of his military service; HE LOVED the Airforce and being a vocal and proud patriot. After the Air Force he was a mechanic for Bob Brock Ford for close to 25 years.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather to his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Patty Hart (Wesley); 3 grandchildren, Brandi Gober, Brandon Hart & Rusty Hart; and 12 great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Ronald was preceded in death by one brother, James Garner.
